mom gets one of falco’s prized macaroni art pieces—

no, sadly falco comes from a place where macaroni is rich people food and he would never stick them onto a piece of paper for show, but he will make her this: a charm made by his own hands, with woven strings and a knot he learned from his time as a cadet back home; small, decorative feathers are attached along with a bead of paleblood jewelry. don’t ask him where he got that from. she will lastly also get a small vase-like . . . thing, with small little fingerprints pressed into the edges to try and keep it straight. it’s a little, ah, deformed compared to skilled hands, but the blueberry paint job puts the cherry on top of a child’s endearing handiwork.

he only didn’t have flowers on hand because they were in the middle of winter, but he promises to pick some during spring.

The gifts are absolutely precious to her, and Rose will definitely have shed some tears — a few in front of him, but with smiles and a hug; she's not upset, she's touched, and she loves them. She thinks they're beautiful and he's a fine craftsman, and she's sorry that she doesn't have enough to trade for nice things just yet, but she'll let Falco know that sometime this month she'll insist on taking him out for a shopping trip, just the two of them. (Falco will also get a kiss on the cheek. Though she has no supernatural abilities of her own, this kiss has some Mom Protection in it, we all know it to be true.)

A few more tears will come later that night, to herself, when placing the vase on the nightstand right beside her bed.
