A. Different Tides
I've been seeing someone about this. Wake up almost every morning remembering she calls "a wine-dark sea," can you believe that shit? [ He laughs from the belly, it's a deep and rolling sound that almost puts the pirate at ease. They don't on account of the metal baseball bat gently tapping against the side of their head as Tony commiserates. They had thought a human, fat, confused, and naked, would be easy prey when they fished them out of the drink with the slob only carrying random detritus from another world.
They had been so wrong. ]
What are you crying for? Nothing's gonna happen.
[The pirate whimpers as a gale of seaspray and thunder rush up against the hull of the ship. For the first second leading to the inevitable- they believe him. Then his arm draws back in the arc of a swing, the bat connects, and suddenly they're nothing at all.]
"Wine-dark sea" fucking chooch.
[ Tony pulls on the dead man's coat after he dressed and calls out, ]
Anyone else wanna deal with this shit, or can we all just get to shore?
[He might spy a tall, blond, shirtless guy shucking a blood-spattered tunic off another dead pirate and pulling it over his head.]
There's another translation that reads 'wine-faced sea', and it could mean the sea is lurching about like a drunken sailor.
[The guy turns around, tucking the shirt into his trousers and adjusting his belt. Another pirate tries to jump him from the side, but the tall guy simply thrusts his elbow into the attacker's head, literally knocking the pirate's block off. Literally. The body dropping and the head falling after it. The tall guy glances at the dead pirate, then looks up at the masts.]
That would hinge on how much we both know about rigging and sails. The wind's stiff and while putting up more canvas would get us to shore faster, the pressure could damage the masts. [He looks at Tony, his eyes reddish orange with pupils worthy of a snake.] What are you willing to hazard?
[Tony shifts the bat until it catches on the tip of the jaw of a beaten-down-looking pirate. One that flinches as Tony knocks it hard on the railing before using it to look the other man in the eye. Conspirataorly hunkering down to look at Wesker, back at the pirate, then back at him.]
"Rigging the sails" this one, he's funny.
[ Tony stands up, the whimpering pirate just drops and Tony takes the other's coat for his efforts. If Wesker's eyes are something to note the dead stare Tony answers back with is noticeable. ]
[He's accustomed to stunned or shocked looks from people when he looks them in the eye, but this dead look shorts out any attempt at leverage. This isn't someone he can unsettle, and he respects that, though a small smirk of approval might pass over his face before he resumes his usual calm deadpan.]
[Another look to the masts, this time scanning the sails and the lines.]
It's your call. Were it up to me, I would put up every square inch of canvas and make land or port as soon as possible. Any damage to the masts is fair game after these ruffians kidnapped us. One of us will need to man the wheel so we don't end up on rocks or grounding out on a sandbar,
'Ruffians' Jesus Christ [ Tony hooked a finger into his belt and takes one step forward that clears the distance between himself and Wesker before saying, ]
C'mere, I like you. [ The finality of Tony's arm engulfing the other man's shoulder doesn't leave much room for an option. Yet, somehow, Tony is genial in the way and an old friend looping someone back in on an inside joke would act. ]
This isn't bumper cars at Coney fucking Island. Those 'ruffians' still standing you and me will get them to steer this thing out of this mess because then we all win. Alright?
[Honestly Ruby had see the whole display after being pulled up onto the ship and her main take away was that she was pretty glad Tony had decided to take the pirates coat after executing him like that. It was a good look- A pirate jacket and a bloody baseball bat was something she could respect.
She raises up a hand excitedly.]
I'm ready to go to shore!
The shore sounds great right about now. Hear it's lovely this time of year.
[ Tony announced to no one in particular but in a voice that got any willing ears to perk in his direction. Leveraging his weight off the mainmast, he kicks the body at his feet like yesterday's trash before biting into a drenched and useless cigar. He walks right up to Ruby, raising a hand and-
Pinching her cheeks with an affectionate tug before cupping it in an approving pat. ]
[He might have noticed the child hiding on the ship. He might not have. Luca had gotten caught...again, but when he'd been dragged to the lower decks he'd managed to slip away and run back up here, sneaking onto the upper deck just in time to see...that. He'd been planning to jump overboard and swim off, but now he just stares, petrified, and whimpers. On the bright side, at least Luca had been here long enough to retrieve his seaweed shorts from his pack before he'd swum back out to sea, though at that point it's the farthest thing from his mind.]

[ Tony had failed to notice the kid. Much as he liked to warn his two back home, he did not really have eyes in the back of his head. So when a strained little sound that could only come from a child perks his ears up, does Tony try to conceal the bat. It's a sloppy job of just putting it halfway behind him and hoping the nearly acquired coat hides the rest.
His lip curls when he spots Luca, and he looks back down at the body. If he could hurt a dead man, he would. Kids, they had kids on this thing.
Tony puts up a hand and slowly lowers himself to one knee. IT hurts like a son of a bitch, but he doesn't wince. ]
Hey, kid. You're alright. We're, uh, finding a lifeboat.
[Luca glances nervously at the side of the boat, contemplating jumping overboard and swimming away now that the person that had kept him from doing that up until that point was...well, he didn't look like he was going to be getting up anytime...ever.]
I could just--
[He answers in Italian, though Tony might have trouble placing the particular dialect. The magic of this place had been translating everything Luca said up until that point, but when it's a shared language, there was no need. He considers saying he doesn't need a lifeboat...but he realizes he should probably not tell everyone in this place what he really is. Especially people that are that good at killing. Luca closes his eyes and takes a breath. Unbeknownst to him, the vile blood that now courses through his veins has changed certain aspects of his physiology. All he knows is that when he takes a deep breath to calm down, the smell of blood fills his nostrils. Instead of feeling repulsed, however, it's making him hungry. Which horrifies him in a whole new way and does nothing to help him sort out his current panic at seeing someone get killed, even if it was someone that had been planning on selling his blood on the black market.]
Okay, I just need to get off of this ship.
[Away from the body that horrified him, away from the pirates that wanted to kill him to sell his blood, away from the blood and all the questions he didn't dare ask himself. Just...away. He needs to get away.]
[Tsume had been shoved in a cage by the pirates when he'd gotten on board, too tired and worn out from swimming to fight them much. They'd talked about chopping the wolf up for stew, claiming he was too wild to drain the blood from.
He'd gotten enough strength to cloak himself in his human illusion. While he'd been actively trying to get out of the cage, he quieted when he saw the human manage to turn the tables on his captors. Most impressive for a fat balding man. Tsume figures it's best not to underestimate this one.
He's up against the edge of the cage, his hands grasping the bars. He's dressed curiously, all in leather like some teenage stripper or something, and covered in scars. The most prominent one is the X-shaped scar on his chest. He just stares at Tony with wariness in his strange golden eyes.]
I'd be happy to help but you've got to let me out first.
[ Tony's attention is grounded back to the rest of the ship, and he notices the body pressed up to the bars in a cage. It was just the right size for an animal and just too cramped for a human. For some reason, Tony's hindbrain saw golden eyes and thought their would-be captors were too stupid to torture a man like this. ]
Sure, [ Tony said as he moved to inspect the lock before grabbing a loose ship's nail to pry it apart.. ] They got the rest of the Village People in there?
[He says in a puzzled tone. Sorry, Tony, most pop culture references don't exist in Tsume's time period anymore. Tsume waits with uncharacteristic impatience for the large man to open up his cage. He's wary of humans at the best of times and this is far from the best of times. Any human who could brutally kill someone the way he'd dealt with those pirates need to be carefully watched.
When the lock is broken, Tsume immediately bursts out of the cage and puts some distance between it and himself. He's never had anything but bad experiences with cages, this one included.]
[ Tony chuckles in a way that had an undertone of being annoyed. Words misunderstood, references lost, and not explicitly being thanked. He grits his teeth hard enough to grind his molars into his jaw to curb a reaction.
And then he breaks out and Tony steps back on instinct. ]
Hey, hey--!
[ Tony grips his bat and thrusts it like a sword outward. ]
