[Blue's eyes crinkle with a mix of empathy and warmth before he nods and turns away, making a slow and careful trek to the boardwalk. the more he walks, the easier it becomes, but his physiology still doesn't give him much stamina to work with, so care must be taken.
all that to say the wolf gets plenty of time to himself to rest and recollect before the Mu makes a return with a tray laden with a couple hot dogs and soup bowl full of water - something Blue has to take his time in setting down lest he drop the whole thing in shifting his balance.

[With Blue off to get him some food, Tsume sets about getting himself back to rights. He lays there until some of his strength comes back, allowing him to get further away from the shoreline. He lets his damp fur begin to dry and makes a few futile efforts to get the sand out of it.
When that fails, he sits there and patiently awaits the return of his savior. His eyes light up when he sees Blue return with food and water. Without a word, he immediately chomps down on the food, eagerly drinking the water. He hadn't realized how parched the sea water had made him until just this moment. After he finishes, he looks up at Blue.]
Thanks. [And then after a moment's pause, he adds on: ] Why did you help me in the first place?
[Blue remains stationary throughout, just taking in the sight. there aren't many animals left in the world Blue's had a chance to see - and certainly none as large and intelligent as this one here, so it's quietly fascinating, and makes it more and more clear that he's far from what he's known.
when the wolf looks to him, Blue's thoughtful, faraway gaze refocuses and fixes on him.
why? he tilts his head just slightly.]
You needed help. Hearing you out there...I couldn't ignore something like that.
[but that makes him wonder if the same isn't true were things in reverse.]
[That answer doesn't quite satisfy as he sits back on his haunches, bringing a back leg up to scratch at his throat where an itch currently is. But he's not sure if there's anymore to such an explanation. Sometimes, the simple answer is the best one.]
Not everyone has that much compassion, especially for wolves.
[Not where Tsume is from at least, where he's been shot at before just for the simple act of being one, a group of men once trying to collect on a Noble's bounty by rounding up he and his pack by wounding them until they wouldn't be able to run anymore.]
[Tsume has never seen a human being able to do what Blue was able to do before but his experience with other species that still look humanoid is a bit limited.]
[Despite his usual disdain for humans, Tsume can't help but feel some sympathy for Blue. He sits back on his haunches looking up at him.]
That sounds all too familiar. Humans do that with wolves in my world all the time. Are there many of you left?
[Wolves were rapidly disappearing from the post-apocalyptic landscape they called home, though that had as much to do with the world coming to a final end as the humans hunting them.]
[Blue's expression grows somber and distant as he shakes his head, thinking on the children of Nazca. of Jomy and the others.

No, but...they will continue to strive to find a peaceful future. Somehow... [and it's well out of his hands now, isn't it? not only had he opened his arms to burning death, he's woken in a place with such a strange feeling of finality. he doesn't know much of purgatory or paradise, but perhaps this is what the old stories and religions spoke of?]
But they are not here. This place... [he turns his head to look toward the boardwalk, the buildings.] The human minds here...are unlike any I've ever encountered before.
[That expression on Blue's face tells Tsume all that he needs to know. It's another point of similarity between them, members of a dying race on their way to extinction.]
Sometimes I don't think peace really exists in this world or any other.
[Tsume's grown hard and cynical, far more than someone of his years should be. He can't help it after all that he's seen.
He does cock his head in confusion as Blue talks about human minds. He's never given much thought to what human minds might be like.]
[Blue thinks that sometimes, too. but he's never given himself the chance to have more than a passing inkling of it, lest he dash the hopes of others. through that, he maintains his own hope; it's a self-sustaining cycle...and something that might not last, now so isolated from his kind and the circumstances they faced.
then again, seeing something so radically different may see fit to bolster his hopes!

Where I'm from, those things have always felt a certain way to me, because they were conditioned to be from a very young age. People do not think as freely as they could.
Here is different. I don't feel those restrictions. They might be entirely absent, in fact.
It sounds like you've been denied a lot of freedom in your life. You should change that.
[Being a wild animal, Tsume knew all about having the freedom to be who you wanted to be, go where you wanted to go, and do what you wanted to do without the restraints of others holding you back.]
[Tsume cocks his head, thinking over the question as his pointed ears are turned to a diagonal direction.]
I don’t know if it is exactly that for me. Wolves have a natural sort of freedom that humans often don’t. It’s the kind you only find in nature, where her’s are the only rules that apply.
[If Tsume was bound by shackles, they were only those of his own making in his mind.]

Blue can't say he's acquainted with them, not with the way society has been developed and fine-tuned to the state it's in now. animals are rare enough as it is in captivity, let alone something in the wild. Tsume's likeness and disposition are unique to Blue - perhaps all the more compelling a draw, even in his fury.]
I don't think...I'd like to see that kind of freedom taken from you here. I hope you can find it still, even in this place. Or...perhaps a way to escape, to where you are better served.
