She could point out that it's not exactly the most ideal way to greet someone, especially in a situation like this. She could tell him that she's glad to see him - really glad, actually, because even if she and Mako may not have been the closest bosom buddies, he's someone who really seemed to truly understand things about her back in Deerington.
But rather than going for any of that, Ange can't help but fall back on habits that feel familiar and comfortable.
[ Approaching Ange in the first place seemed like the best possible idea: she's clearly sensible. She has a solid head on her shoulders, she's unlikely to exaggerate any of the events that may have happened to her since waking up here, in Mako's eyes, and that means she's probably one of his most reliable sources of information.
Reliable, and snarky. Mako has to stop himself from laughing, but can't quite keep the snort of amusement back. ]
You know saying that puts on the top of my suspect list, right?
[ Deadpanning right back, although he lifts his notebook a moment later, offering a small smile. ]
Trying to figure out if there's a pattern to the way we're waking up. If you have a minute, I want to hear about it.
Ah, thanks. I thought you never were going to say it.
[ Even though Ange is the ONE NOT SAYING IT IN THE FIRST PLACE.. But okay, girl. It's a statement born out of deadpan rather than any actual offense though, judging by the way she shrugs her shoulders, before the pokerfaced attitude seems to melt a little.
Or at the very least enough to say: ]
It's good to see you too. [ Especially since he already seems like he's getting on top of things here. It's good to have someone as sensible as Mako around. ]
I don't think I have any interesting information for you though. I only remember waking up on the beach, lying in the sand.
[ He is trying his best to get on top of things, because the alternative is letting himself wallow in the fact that his bending is broken again and he has no idea what's coming for him and that this world seems distinctly dangerous, which.
Well.
In a way, he'd kind of figured. It doesn't do anyone any good to be optimistic and hope that you're going to end up paradise only to swim up onto violent, crab-ridden shores. At least he was realistic about this from the beginning. ]
That's as interesting as anything I'm after.
[ In fact, he scrawls "Ange" under a column on his notebook labeled "just washed up." ]
There might be a pattern, something we can use... we don't have a lot, at this point. Your blood done anything weird?
Yup. Between this world and the last one, I became a certified healer.
[ He says it with a completely straight face, but this is Ange: she'll get it for the joke that it is, he figures, and grins a moment later. ]
It's a weird question, but, look—
[ Tucking the notebook under his arm, Mako fishes in the pocket of his pants for a tiny penknife and uses it to prick his own finger, holding it up for Ange to see.
Sure enough, instead of the red blood he definitely had before, whether she knew that or not, what comes out is a smoky blue substance that hardens on his finger into something cold. ]
[ If this was any other person, Ange definitely would have stopped them before they could prick their finger like that.
But she trusts Mako. He has proven to have more than just one singular braincell, so surely he'd have a good reason for doing this - so rather than openly fussing, she just stares.. and watches his blood practically freeze right out of his body. It doesn't even look like blood.
Maybe there's a little bit of fussing after all, visible in her eyes when she looks up into his eyes again. ]
You don't seem to be very concerned about that.
[ Look, she'll try out her own blood in a moment, she just has to make sure to have told him. You ought to be a tad more concerned about this, Mako!! It's your blood! ]
Being concerned about it isn't going to do me any good. It's happening, whether I like it or not. I'm not the only one.
[ Read: that is because Ange did not see Mako earlier, trying to deal with the shift in his entire elemental worldview because he'd frozen himself to the boardwalk. This is calm Mako. Calm Mako has compartmentalized his feelings in favor of information-gathering, and Calm Mako is determined to just kind of never deal with his feelings about this again.
It's fine, we're all fine here. Carefully, he pries off the little chunk and holds it out to Ange. ]
It freezes like ice. Another guy I was stuck with on a pirate ship had the same thing, and his used to be normal, too. I have to assume it's happening to other people, and that it's this place doing it, but. That's what I'm trying to figure out.
[ See, that might be the exact reason why she's giving him a little stare. Sure, Ange looks at the chunk of.. ice.. blood? Whatever it is that she's being handed here, but she's also looking up at Mako's face. Just giving him a look.
As if she doesn't fully trust that he's just been this calm about it all this time. Mako's a guy with common sense - but that's exactly why he ought to be worried about his blood changing this wildly.
Maybe it's since it's already a bit later, Ange figures. ]
Has everyone you asked this to had weird freezing blood?
[ In the meantime, she's snapping her fingers, making one of her stakes appear out of nowhere.
Yes, she's planning on stabbing scratching herself with that to get some blood. But she figures she might as well ask him that first while she's summoning it. ]

Which, in this case, means the usual deadpan. ]
I didn't do it, officer.
[ Her facial muscles don't even twitch. ]

[ The word is repeated with some scepticism in it. Not that she doubts that Mako is going somewhere with this. He wouldn't ask this without reason.
But it feels so odd. So out of the blue. Why is he asking about her blood, of all things? Was she supposed to notice something about it?
Ange frowns, tilting her head sideway as she thinks. ]
Is this a medical checkup now? [ It's clear that she has no idea what he's talking about. ]
