CONTENT WARNINGS: Deep diving, possible drowning, possible death
Early on in the month, the waves start to have a strange look to them. They seem a little brighter, even at night, and it's then that it hits you: the waves are glowing. It's easy to at first to brush it off as the bioluminescence of certain types of plankton, but the way it moves and sparkles has an other-worldly quality to it that can't be explained by science. Those who look even closer at the glow will notice that it seems to be forming some sort of path into the watery depths.
Those who choose to follow the path despite the angry waves and awful storms that plague the seas this month will find that the ocean seems to be at its calmest along these illuminated, watery roads. Diving down to follow them won't require any equipment, as Sleepers will find that staying within the glowing path allows them to breathe under water when they might normally not have been able to. The pressure changes don't seem to be impacting anyone who follows the light either, allowing them access to deeper depths of the ocean than may have previously been explored.
Continuing to follow the path will lead Sleepers to a series of ship wrecks under the water. These ancient vessels are rotted and covered in seaweed, but anyone who is familiar with the cultures of Earth will notice that they seem to come from all over the world and their styles vary by multiple centuries. But all the ships seem to be covered in this same, strange glow that has brought people here.
Exploring the ships will lead to multiple different discoveries. There are chests filled with ancient artifacts: carvings of squids, statues of various sea creatures that feel a little off somehow, and stones carved with a strange text that is almost impossible to decipher. The artifacts are covered in strange, rust-looking stains that penetrate deep into the materials they're made of. These artifacts can be brought back to shore, and if someone were to try and ask the Trenchies what the writing said, they would only be able to say that these are clearly texts of the Old Ones from long before any recorded history that Trench has in its Archives. When asked about the sea creatures, they'll think it's obvious: these are Mariana's various forms from over the years. The off qualities are her unique takes as a Pthumerian on the creatures of the ocean.
Prolonged exposure to these statues of Mariana will cause people to become more bluntly honest, more open with their emotions, and often much more prone to large outbursts from said emotions, both good and bad. However, Sleepers who keep these statues near them will also find that they are able to keep more control of their blood powers. It's up to each individual if it's a worthy trade off.
If you leave the path, two things can happen: Sleepers will either turn into their squid selves and can continue to swim or they will drown. There will be nothing of interest outside of these paths, just typical ocean creatures, and maybe some of those monsters that have been crawling out of the watery depths as of late.

CONTENT WARNINGS: Body horror, mentions of potential cannibalism/vore, possible death, contagious curse.
Soon after people start to explore the ships, a strange occurrence will start to sweep through the city. Locals start to mutter something about a curse, one that seems to only be impacting Sleepers. The early signs that there's something off is an increase in strength and stamina. For example, Sleepers will find that they might go to pick up a chair or a mug and it shatters in their hands. Some people may find that they are incapable of sleeping. Others might find they're able to move quicker and for longer periods than normal.
If they look themselves over, they will start to find small patches of skin that have started to gray and blacken. These patches will be cracked, almost scaley, and will be consistently damp no matter how hard you try to dry them off. As time passes, this odd rash will start to spread, taking over more and more of the body. The torso might start to swell and distort, making Sleepers feel particularly top heavy. And eventually, suckers will start to form on the arms and legs.
This curse isn't beasthood in its usual forms; instead, it seems to be some sort of malady in of the magical blood that Sleepers have been granted. If the blood of an infected Sleeper is looked at under a microscope, there will be black patches clinging to the cells, similar to the patches that people see on their skin. If it isn't stopped, the person suffering from the curse will ultimately turn into a monstrous form of their squid-selves: these monster forms are large, aggressive, and able to move on land. They will feel a hunger for destruction and some Sleepers may find in these forms that they are only satisfied if they feed on other, uncursed Sleepers.
There are two ways to lift the curse. One is through a thorough blood transfusion with a blood type that is compatible with your own. This becomes more difficult to do the closer to the monstrous form people get, both due to aggression from the curse, and also due to the fact that the black patches of skin are highly difficult to puncture. Once the blood is completely replaced by fresh blood, the skin patches will disappear over 48 hours and the Sleeper will be left feeling thoroughly exhausted.
The second way to lift the curse is through death. While these monster squid forms are difficult to kill, it is not impossible, and they are particularly susceptible to magic over weapons. Once a Sleeper has died, they can be reborn, and their blood will be completely free of the curse.
The blood malady can be spread outside of those who come into contact with the ship wrecks. People who touch a cursed Sleeper, particularly the scaley patches of skin, will also run the risk of being cursed. It takes roughly a week for the signs of the curse to show, and can spread as slowly or as rapidly as players choose.

CONTENT WARNINGS: Personality changes, mental manipulation, hoarding, obsessive anxiety, disassociation, depersonalization
The high waves seem to just be getting higher at the beginning of the month. Rougher and rougher seas start to cause something anyone who's lived around water will be familiar with: flash floods. These floods are large, powerful, and fill the streets of Trench. First-floors of buildings may get extreme damage, though they can be protected with physical and magical barriers if people are smart about it. The floods happen multiple times throughout the month without warning, so it may be good to get that protection built up sooner rather than later.
The after effects of these floods aren't just structural devastation though. People who get caught up in the water, particularly those who end up swallowing it, will have one word echoing in their mind on a regular basis: More.
More of what? That seems to be different for each individual. Maybe one person wants more and more food, anything from an extra slice of cake after dinner, to wanting to stuff themselves until they just might pop. Or maybe they want to hoard all of their favorite objects or pieces of clothing, filling more and more of the space in their homes until they're ready to burst at the seems. Some might find it's their emotions that come in excess, with over the top anger, or irregular excitement that leaves them unable to sleep for days. Anything and everything can come in excess and it certainly seems to be this month. Some people may get these obsessive needs to such a degree that they start to feel disconnected from themselves, fractured by the overabundance that has taken over their lives.
If people ignore these desires, they'll start to find they're plagued by hallucinations. Strong, life-like visions that riddle them with anxiety and leave them petrified of what might happen if they don't partake in this gluttonous behavior. They'll feel shaken to the core and slowly go mad with need and desire for whatever it is they've been craving. This feeling of madness can make them become violent, lashing out at those around them, even killing those who try and help them out of belief that they're trying to force them to give in to their vices.
The impact of the water will wear off either after one week without re-exposure, or by using a Moon Drop to help to cleanse the mind.

Feel free to use the following form as a general guidance for your ideas for this month's event. Tag around for new CR, build off old CR, or use this as a way of organizing your thoughts and plans.

Player's Pronouns: she/her
Preferred Player Contact:
Monthly Pacing: I haaaate that I have to say this but I will probably be pretty slow this month. I'm taking a trip next week and then I just have various other small several-day engagements eating up a lot of time. That being said there are pockets of time in in which I can have concentrated tagging time, and I intend to make very good use of that!
OOC Limits: None to speak of at the moment!
Opting-Out Prompts: I'm willing to engage with every single prompt to a degree!
Character Name: L Lawliet (but here most people know him by Lazarus Sauveterre.)
Character Blood Type: Paleblood
Character Role: Consulting private detective
What CR you would like to develop for this event: I play a difficult type, but he's not unreachable. I'm always down to plant the seeds for friendships (he's likely to get along best with nerds, jocks, pragmatists and nurturers). To L, enemies are basically essential for him to keep feeling like he has a reason to live, so having anything from a friendly rivalry to a death grudge is awesome CR. As always, developing and deepening existing CR is the entire reason I RP, I'm just really here to make those relationships feel real and deep.
Open/Closed to New CR this event: Always, always open!
What CR you want to avoid this event: Romance is off the table this month since he's spoken for!
Timeline/Event Ideas:
WE GLOW SO DIM:
- Because L has an orca whale omen and spends a great deal of the time at the beach with her during evenings, he'll be among the first to notice the glowing waves. They'll catch his interest and the lack of restriction on breathing will not impede him from exploring shipwrecks. Overall effect on him will be NEUTRAL in the sense that he will neither provide or require help from others to survive this successfully; because he wants more control over his blood powers, he's likely to elect to keep a statue near him, but he is also likely to grow more outspoken and blunt regarding emotions he's so very recently kept tamped down and hidden. If you want a blowout with L with dirty laundry aired, this is a pretty good time!
MONSTER WITHIN
-L's symptoms are likely to be mild and not progress beyond that point. He's in a POSITIVE position for this prompt, able to help others who are in rougher shape. If your character is in trouble and turning into a squid beast, L can provide a Paleblood transfusion, or fight/escape if you just want to cause dastardly terrorizing mayhem here (I do not judge at all.)
LAVISH DESIRES
-This prompt will be a NEGATIVE one, in which L is more likely to require help from others and less able to provide it. He'll be caught in a flood in the cellar of one of his safehouses and nearly drown, swallowing quite a lot of water in the process. His "more" will be "personal contact and community", which is unfortunately something he already wants while feeling like it's not something he can be fully part of. The paradox will be cranked up, and he'll be miserably hallucinating all of the awful murderers he doesn't want to be among, but probably deserves to be. Because of the month's blood effects his dreamwalking abilities will be hobbled, so he's likely (also paradoxically) to feel some relief with these hallucinations. If you want L to attack or fight your character in a state of madness this is a good prompt for that!
SLICE OF LIFE PROMPTS
-L is a working detective and he has cases he takes on monthly. This month, he has The Case of the Homey Casket (D), but if you'd like your character to be involved in another one, this is a great place to hit me up about it! Likewise, he is a dreamwalker whose abilities are somewhat on the fritz this month, but it's still possible... just with less control and constraints. If you want a really *negative* dreamwalking experience this month, it's a good time for a bad time!

Could this be the month they both manage to get objectively good at sex just through practicing lots?
no subject
maybe this is the chance they’ll get, one in a life time. the stars are aligned

i mean also if L is investigating D vi would be MAYBE POKING AROUND because she is affected by his fascinating unearthly beauty aura and there there are a pile of drawings in vi's room of that guy
shhhhh.
no subject
I'd love an opportunity for him to get a peek at those drawings lol.
no subject
yeah definitely positive BEFORE all the weird. well, weirder than baseline "this is trench" weird anyway
vi is bringing home a statue from the ship, so there's that, which is less angsty
no subject
I can do a toplevel specifically for Vi in the Rookery for the statue, I love that idea and I'm getting this up tomorrow come hell or high water!
no subject
i moved my starter for the rookery dinner to september's plans because august is just ...SOMETHING.

~ One, if you want to deal with flooding, we could have some CR dealt with there, a begrudging assistance with "you owe me" at the end. Or maybe not, since he might consider that a "we're even" due to L letting him off the proverbial hook earlier.
~ Two, just the idea of L being among awful murderers more or less fits in with Dabi, if they end up being in each other's company. Whether this is gambling somewhere or another thievery catch, since Dabi's gonna be hit with "more stuff" version of greed. Could lead to a fight.
~ Three, while the dreamwalking abilities are hit this month, if you want to wrangle in some broken dreamwalking to have L witness some of Dabi's murders back home, that's a possible inclusion.

you had me at "tempted with the Lavish Desires"Literally every part of this sounds awesome to me. I think the only tricky part will be figuring out how to work it into a single prompt, but I've certainly played multiple threads with a single character before during an event.
You've conveniently listed them in the order of how I would prioritize these situations for significant beats, so I think that the first one has my preference if we would like to prioritize just one (additionally, it could lead into the "company of murderers" idea in the same thread). The dreamwalking would be easier to keep short and/or drabblefic rather than play out a nuanced and tense confrontation for, although I am certainly open to this.
no subject
awesome. first strike kill.I think they could be played in order, actually, with the flooding happening first, which could lead into dabi taking l to goat turning for some drinks/gambling to shake off the almost drowning shock, thus playing into the whole murder company and possible aggressive gambling with some loot dabi scored in one of the sunken ships earlier.
we could save dreamwalking for a later date, when it's more a focus rather than a "just wanna chuck it in" deal, since dabi's killed... a lot of people, hah.

I'm going to get a toplevel up tomorrow, and will link you when it's done. I'll make sure that there's a flooding prompt specifically for L and Dabi!
no subject
i also got a toplevel up as well if you want to hit something in it. otherwise, i'll tag into your prompt once you get it up!

I"m super down for it getting pulled back on the rails and becoming a good time! Would you like L to end up in one of Nico's dreams or vice-versa?
no subject
Either is fine with me, so depending on whether you want a quick-run through a bad time (Nico) or a little work needed (L). He has plenty of practice with his own nightmares to switch it to something better.

What's Himiko going to be up to this month? The beautiful thing about playing a nosy detective is I can usually figure out a reason to put him just about anywhere in Trench, and I'm super glad to cook up a current case if it would make their paths crossing easier.
no subject
GOOD QUESTION. So far... here's what I'm thinking:
Monster Within: Himiko turning squid and will need blood. She's vileblood, meaning paleblood will save her. She will feel icky and gross with all the patches on her.
Now I think about it, she will want more paleblood because it benifits vileblood types.Things can happen. Just saying. Like biting.Lavish Desires: I mean, he can follow her around. Thinking her desire going glutton, for cake. Almost like a date until either 'this' creeps Himiko out how L continues to follow her OR L notice her cake issue.
Much as Dreamwalking is temtping, it might show some possible spoilers of her behavior if you want to slow burn L's detective skill.
Detective work: I'm open to ideas for case work. :3

I'm super down for paleblood saving her! I'm just. Such a sucker for vampire type stuff and biting, so I love the idea of incorporating this, maybe with a current case? He does a lot of infidelity stuff and missing persons so can be caught out in the dark with fair ease.
I'll have a toplevel up tomorrow and if this works for you I'll make sure to leave it wide open for him and Himiko to cross paths!
