Player Plot: Fallback Shelter

Manabu got people looking beyond Trench and his expedition set up a lamp as per the wilderness expedition he led and now D is taking what he views as the next logical step and getting an outpost/fortification going.

But it's not as simple as just building a castle, because there's monsters, blood pollution, corruption, and did I mention the monsters?

D will be putting out a network post in the first couple weeks of July explaining his idea and asking people to help. For certain versions of asking.



What's the point of all this?

D wants to make a defensible point where people can evacuate from Trench if necessary, that means a defensible location, room for people and animals to sleep, and supplies. The hostility towards sleepers is going to have him view this initially as a place where the sleepers can retreat to if it becomes overly hostile.

Basically, it's going to be a medium fort or a small castle by the time everything is done, and a place for people to live full time if they want after phase 2 of construction is complete.

What's going on this month

Guard shifts: This place will need round the clock guarding in order to make any progress, D will be looking for people willing to stand guard and people to stay on site for periods of time as reserves. If round the clock guards aren't maintained a lot of the other progress will be lost very quickly at least until everything becomes fully established in a few months.

Anti-corruption efforts: There's going to be a steady supply of incense and D is going to not-so-sneakily take cuttings from Varre's blood drinking roses to reduce blood corruptions, and will be trading for or recruiting any anti-corruption help he can get.

Volunteers will be told to make regular visits to the sanctuary before or after their shift for help with corruption.

Magic protection: walls and structures take time, and D's first goal is getting magical protections put up.

Construction: The first goal will be repairing the ruins and creating a place where people can stay safe from the weather or take shelter for other reasons and create an outer perimeter wall. If there are a lot of people with magical construction abilities this could faster, if not it will go slower and take at least 3 months.

Phase 1: make a shelter where people can comfortably spend quite a lot of time if the weather gets bad and get the outermost wall made. This is the part that is definitely happening this month, the rest of it might or might not have progress made towards it.

Phase 2: Once the outer wall is done make a few more buildings to make things more comfortable and a guard tower. Clear at least some of the surrounding land so there's a slightly better line of sight and make underground chambers. By the time this phase is mostly done there will be places for people to somewhat comfortably live full time if they want, but probably a bad idea unless you're ready to fight off monsters.

Phase 3: Connect the existing structures with a main great hall, build secure housing for animals to be brought in and more storage for food and places for sleeping and start bringing in supplies.
