player plot: fated leviathan
Content Warnings: Body horror, thalassophobia, violence, death
Hello! This is Beth, Paul Atreides' player, with a player plot planned to kick off later this month and culminate in late February/early March. What is it? A shapeshifting abyssal kaiju fight, with a light dash of prophetic horror!
What Kicks Things Off: Paul Atreides, local problems clown and paleblood, has begun having visions of a massive abyssal beast known as the Fated Leviathan arriving on the Farther Shores and devouring Sleepers at the behest of a hooded, mysterious figure. As this is something that can be described as 'unfortunate', Paul is going to warn the city in general and those he sees as the potential victims of the beast specifically in a network post onJanuary 21st January 22nd (edit: rescheduling due to IRL commitment on 21st).
The main body of the warning network post will be open to all, with the warnings about being possibly targeted by the beast delivered individually and privately to every person Paul can accurately identify. It is not necessary for your character to have been identified in a vision for them to be involved, and I will note right off the bat that Paul's vision is not accurate about who will be attacked. If your character is in a vision, you are not committed to anything bad happening to them, and they could easily stay at home and be perfectly fine.
The exact content of the visions for each character will be left up to their players. By default, Paul is witnessing them as representative objects he will be puzzling out, but if you would prefer that all the information he receives is a suggestion of their name or Just Knowing, that's also an option. It will also be up to players if Paul actually is able to identify and locate their characters to communicate these visions to them immediately, or if you would prefer that he not.
Additional Note (Courtesy Lis): I am more than open to other characters with prophetic/weirdness sensitive abilities to perceive visions of the Leviathan after the network post launch, including being able to receive more/clearer information than Paul - one of the themes here is that Paul is misreading some important aspects of what's going on. If you're interested, we can hash it out in the comments or elsewhere! My only limits for plot purposes would be a) Paul's final fate and b) the portion of his visions involving the ~mysterious figure~.
What Happens Next: Paul will organize (with any other characters who may be interested in assisting) a base camp on the beach near where he predicts the Leviathan will arrive. There will strategizing, training, and mingling options on offer, which will be in a catch-all post beginning February 4th.
There is no obligation to interact with Paul to be present at this camp, as the invitation is open to all citizens. I want to organize it like a mini-event post, where you can create your own top-levels in response to a summary of prompts, and I'd encourage people to do whatever they like with them. My goal is for this to be as open to a variety of characters and their skill sets as possible.
How It Ends: Towards the end of February (tentatively February 25th), the Fated Leviathan will arrive outside Trench, where Paul will be waiting with whoever has chosen to join him in the fight. The base camp will be prepared to act as a field hospital and strategic command. I will add these events to the previous catch-all post when they launch.
• The Fight and the Fated Leviathan: The fight itself will be against a beast of enormous size, but shifting form, and it will require the combined efforts of multiple people to force into a concrete enough shape to be killed. This is because the Fated Leviathan is a possibility shifter: it exists in multiple timelines and realities simultaneously, selectively choosing which aspects of itself to manifest in this one as both defense and offense.
What this looks like is a mass of conflicting sea life that flickers through different configurations constantly. If a lone character strikes at a tentacle with a sword, the tentacle ceases to exist and is replaced with a chunk of coral reef that seals around the blade, or a rubbery mass of seaweed that ensnares their feet. If a character attempts to dodge a strike from a coiled bundle of kelp and shark's teeth, a fence of baleen will rise up around them to block their escape. It's only by overwhelming the beast with a wide variety of attacks from different angles that the characters will be able to force into remaining in a stable enough form to harm - a single sword blow drawing out that coral reef, only for it to be obliterated by a fireball, and so on.
The highly fluid nature and large size of the beast are intended to make sure that all fighters are contributing meaningfully and aren't bound to one particular type of fight/shape of the monster. Even if you're 'only' throwing rocks at it from a distance, you're still winnowing down the possibility thresholds it uses to attack and evade. Please feel free to interact with this part at any level from 'fun kaiju fight' to 'bleak horror fight'.
Additional Note (Courtesy Lex): The Leviathan will beach itself for the fight, although if you want to do some aquatic fighting it can also easily still be partially submerged in places.
• Field Hospital and Strategic Command: For characters who may want to be nearby, but either aren't suited to fighting or don't wish to participate, the field hospital and strategic command will be nearby, but not directly affected by the ongoing battle. People will be able to patch up combatants, to observe the beast from a distance and coordinate the different groups of fighters, and to provide general logistical support. This is also where much of the aftermath of the battle may take place.
• The Final Blow: Once the beast has been sufficiently worn down, Paul Atreides will use his prescient visions to target the beast's heart of chaotic entropy. This act will lead to his death - the only death actually guaranteed to happen that day. The witnessing of Paul's death up close will be limited to his immediate CR, but everyone involved will know when it's over,as the beast collapses in a single fixed shape and dies.
UPDATED ENDING AS OF JANUARY 27TH: Paul will still stab the heart and die, but instead of outright killing the Leviathan, this will instead deprive it of its reality shifting abilities and fix it into a final form that the surviving characters will, at that point, be able to kill.
The Aftermath: The beast will slowly fall apart over the course of a week, drifting in pieces back to the sea from where it came. The survivors of the fight will be able to meet back at base camp, reconvene, and go on their way. Once the beast is completely gone, Paul will return from the sea with one of its teeth, and announce his return and thanks to all involved shortly after that. He will owe everyone involved big time, so you may consider any involved character in a position of being to ask for Paul's help at any point in the future.
How To Get Involved: The warning, the visions, base camp, and main battle are open to all, and I hope they offer a variety of ways for people to be as involved or not involved as they would like to be. If you're interested in doing anything with this plot, with or without interacting with the hell-goblin who's responsible for the whole mess (Paul Atreides), feel free to pop in below! A handy mini-block is provided for your convenience, and go ahead and talk among yourselves too below:

FATED LEVIATHAN FINALE PLOTTING
Due to the number of participants in the plot, I will be making some adjustments to the planned structure and putting the fight and its aftermath in a new log post at that time.
Structure of the Battle: To enable people to participate when, where, and how they would prefer, I will be posting all segments of the battle simultaneously. The Battle Stages will be divided as follows:
At Sea segment for initial engagement with the Leviathan as it approaches the Farther Shores. If your character wants to be part of the first wave of the fight, they can likely find their way out there somehow. Here is where the initial softening up of the beast begins.
Landfall segment for the battle prior to the Leviathan's heart being destroyed, which will take place on the beach itself. This will be the rough middle of the fight and where the collective actions of characters involve wear it down sufficiently to draw out the heart.
Death Throws segment for the Leviathan's final form and the fight's conclusion. A description of what the moment of transformation to the beast's final form will look like will be included here. The Leviathan will need to be killed piece by piece, so multiple final blows will be required to get all of it, and everyone who wants to have an opportunity to be involved in its death can be.
Each of these segments will contain sections for Strategic Command, Field Hospitals, and The Frontlines, similar to the base camp mingle post camp area descriptions. Due to the amount of things going on in the plot, I invite people to feel free to thread out the highlight reels, so to speak, while using the handwaving CR/character action comments to record the general gist of what goes on.
An Aftermath section will also be posted. This will be inclusive of all areas on the beach from the camp to the slain and disintegrating beast, for anyone who would like to thread out recovering of casualties, reacting to events, or anything else that may happen after the battle concludes.
As mentioned above, in order to allow people to record all of the things that their characters may be doing in the fight without necessarily having to thread them out, a Battle Report aka a handwave CR/character action section will also be included for each part of the battle, including its Aftermath. You can use this part even if you decide not to thread out anything at all, too - I know this plot has expanded quite a bit, and I want to make it as easy as possible for people to do any handwaving of character involvement they would like to without feeling like they have to get more involved than they want or have capacity for.
What This Comment Is For: I'd like to encourage people to use the comments below to discuss their plans for the plot finale, the beats they would like to hit with their characters, the general strategy of the battle, ask any questions they may have, and otherwise hammer things out for the ending.
This is also an opportunity for anyone who isn't involved yet but might like to be to jump in, if they so choose. Go ahead and head down to the Plotting comment below to get yourself set up!
Acknowledgments: I'd like to extend an enormous thank you to everyone who's been involved so far. I've been amazed and thrilled by the interest people have taken and the creativity and enthusiasm people have brought to the table. This plot wouldn't be even a quarter of what it is without the input and effort of so many people with better ideas than I could have come up with on my own, and I greatly look forward to seeing what you all do with the end of this beast.
I'd also like to give a shout out to the mods for supporting this plot and giving us all room to run with it. This wouldn't be possible without the work they've put into this game and the great setting they've given us to play with, and I'd just like to say thank you for engaging with the (many, many) questions we've asked in relation to it.
BATTLE QUESTIONS AND SUGGESTIONS
BODY COUNT
no subject
Plans for Death: Getting chomped after teleporting over to save Flynn from getting chomped
Plans for Return: 5 days in the sea, will return as a squid in the ocean to be found by Flynn through their new empathetic bond
Additional Notes: RIP
no subject
Plans for Death: After Paul dies. Johnny is going to run in and try to flying kick the thing in the face or teeth. He will be promptly eaten afterward
Plans for Return: This is his second death. Same as the first verse but a little bit louder and a little bit worse.
Additional Notes: The final countdown will probably be playing as he does it.
no subject
Plans for "Death": Somewhere along the line, Illarion tries to flex on the Leviathan with his Darkblood-slash-pillar abilities and gets yeeted straight out of reality. Not even a corpse left though he's going to screw up a chunk of the beach something fierce.
Plans for Return: This is going to take a whole entire player plot to get him back and he'll be returning mid-to-late April.
Additional Notes: I haven't picked where in the timeline of the battle this is going to happen!! It is probably gonna be reactive to Kaworu getting cronched in some way. Totally down 2 coordinate more on what this looks like and what effects it has on the battlefield.

Plans for Death: Eaten by Leviathan during stabbing its heart.
Plans for Return: Paul washes back up on March 4th.
Additional Notes: Paul's death occurs at the same time as the Leviathan settling into its final form after its heart is destroyed. On his return, he comes back with one of its teeth and a roaring case of corruption.
no subject
Plans for Death: Drawn in by the Leviathan and eaten
Plans for Return: He'll wake up in the ocean like a week later.
Additional Notes: This isn't set in stone! It's really dependant on if I think I have the endurance to play him as a survivor both ICly and OOCly. I'm going to watch and see what happens.
no subject
Plans for Death: A bit before Paul's death, the Leviathan notices Chara repeatedly fucking with the timeline and trying to wrestle control back and for just a moment zeroes in on them on the beach and sends a tendril to rip out their soul and crush it.
Plans for Return: They'll be dead about a week.
Additional Notes: Hubris.
no subject
Plans for Death: He is just going to get crunched on by sheer bad luck. Sheer cursedness of existence. He's not even trying to do real fighting.
Plans for Return: idk he'll turn up in a few days and be like, shit does happen lmao
Additional Notes: It's not as cool the second time. :/
no subject
Plans for Death: Lysithea freezes parts of the creature in time once or twice long enough for a blow to land, then finds that it stops working. As it gains ground and kills some of her friends, she sheds her own blood to strengthen her magic, creating a solid few moments when the whole thing is frozen and hopefully gives others a chance to attack. ...Then she faints from blood loss and gets eaten, so that was dumb.
Plans for Return: A few days later.
Additional Notes: None
BATTLE PLOTTING
The Emperor | The Locked Tomb
Character Name: "The Captain" / "Teacher" / The Emperor / John Gaius
Blood Type: Darkblood
Abilities: don't worry about it
Potential Role: Healer! And battlefield control.
What You'd Like To Do: You can be instants from death and he can bring you back up without a scratch (or perhaps with some tasteful scars per your ooc preference). Bring him the really gory, brutal stuff; he'll clap you on the back and send you back in to die again. If you'd like a heal mid-battle or post-battle, please say so here!
Anything Else: He's lending his pirate ship and skeleton minions to the cause. If you want to attack the Leviathan before it hits shore, hop on board! Anna Amarande and Oscar Pine will take the lead.

Yuri Lowell || Tales of Vesperia
Character Name: Yuri Lowell
Blood Type: Darkblood
Abilities: Teleportation, telekinesis, a pocket dimension, swordplay, magical fancy sword moves
Potential Role: At landfall, he'll be in Flynn's squad
What You'd Like To Do: He can participate in some fighting with other folks, but his Big Moment will be sacrificing himself for Flynn. I'm open to having him weave in and out of other fighting threads, if that's like... feasible at all....
Anything Else: If it's not covered above but you want to include it, put it here!

Ruby Rose | RWBY
Character Name: Ruby Rose
Blood Type: Coldblood
Abilities: Eye beams of the cold blood elemental variety.
Super speed/semi teleportation with an elemental rose petal flavor.
A big old sniper rifle scythe.
Potential Role: Melee/Long Range fighting. She will mostly be trying to protect and get the injured out where possible.
Will also assist with cool team attacks and strategy.
What You'd Like To Do:
I don't have any specific plans with Ruby. I'm down for her doing rescues, fighting, or potentially needing some help herself.
Just give her a chance to do cool things with other people.
Anything Else: She will cut you

kaworu nagisa | evangelion
Character Name: Character name
Blood Type: Darkblood
Abilities: Kaworu is an ANGEL. He has a force around him called an AT Field that he can use to create an impenetrable barrier, exert extreme force on things around him, and allow him to gain pseudo-flight.
Potential Role: Frontline defender.
What You'd Like To Do: OKAY SO. Kaworu's powers are pretty hax because the only thing that can break through an AT Field is another AT Field so I feel like it might be a good idea to get him out of play decently quickly. He's been spending the month trying to connect with the Leviathan and it's basically poisoned his mind and is constantly trying to draw him in closer. SO I'm thinking that he ends up abandoning his post and going towards the Kaiju this could cause chaos that other folks can use for their purposes or even consider that he could turn into a hostile.
Anything Else: UHH. I'm very bad at action scenes so yeeting the boy out early is ideal but I also do wanna do things with people so. REACHES FOR!!!

Ezra Bridger| Star Wars
Character Name: Ezra Bridger
Blood Type: Paleblood
Abilities: Telekinesis, battle prescience, empathy, force jump, minor healing, uh....lightsaber?
Potential Role: Could command a battle group/squad is versatile for defense or offense as a melee fighter. Very potentially, I think he could empathically network people via battle meditation, but I think this something I want him to get an inkling he can work on during this fight, but not something that he'll like, level up into doing properly yet.
What You'd Like To Do: Anyone want to be Force yanked/pushed out of danger by this boy? I've toned down his telekinesis some (no holding together entire section of Star Destoyers, yeesh) but he can still pick up people.
Anything Else: Still playing out the part of the plot where he's reaching to try to communicate with the Leviathan. So, uh, any of this could be up to change.
OOC Plotting Information:
Player Name: Lis

OOC Limits: I'm not planning on getting Ezra killed, but could be talked into it, if it fits other stuff going on well.

Paul Atreides | Dune
Character Name: Paul Atreides
Blood Type: Paleblood
Abilities: Paul is a very good sword fighter and has prescient abilities
Potential Role: A mixture of up-close fighting and using his prescience to call shots for other people and issue warnings before attacks.
What You'd Like To Do: The main thing Paul is here to do is watch people get eaten and then perish.

falco grice | attack on titan
Character Name: falco grice
Blood Type: vileblood
Abilities: falco is the current pilot to a pitbull flesh mecha (because that is essentially what titans are), the jaw titan! when shifted, falco is lorge (jaw titans are usually five meters in height but he seems a lot bigger than that in the pictures? help), with a gnarly fifteen meter wingspan— he’s mostly built for flight but can become efficiently mobile on land via the fast forward wyvern waddle, because man are jaws fast.
Potential Role: support! especially if characters need medical attention or intervention! falco will likely search for those who need to get away from battle before a quick death is on its way (from injury, being overthrown, etc). they could either get a team up out of this or catch a ride to safer grounds or, after catching your breath, getting dropped strategically back into the battlefield via giant bird!

Illarion Albireo | OC
Character Name: Merlinus | Old Man | The Fey Thing of Whim and Feather | You get the idea (Illarion Albireo)
Blood Type: Darkblood
Abilities: Necromancin', hand-to-hand combat, multidimensional nonsense and reality-bending via natural law alteration.
Potential Role: Support! While he is very tanky and practicing to rapidly spam zombies at the Leviathan to keep parts of it occupied and guessing, he is not a
n ADCfront-liner; his role is more to lock down some of the Leviathan's possibility-shifting. His particular Darkblood bent for reality-bending means he can gum up the Leviathan locally by restricting some of its options, though he has to use that power sparingly. Will also be dispensing some anti-unreality armaments people can use to Hurt It More. What You'd Like To Do: Illarion's gonna be in the "taken out early" squad in the battle itself! He will attempt to prevent Kaworu's date with cronch via reality-bending, and fail at it so spectacularly he's kicked right out of reality. This will leave part of the beach in a corrupted state. (And if anyone will indulge me, I'd love if it would at least lock a small part of the Leviathan out of its shapeshifting so people can kill it.)
Anything Else: Pre-battle blessings and/or sacrifices, anyone??
OOC Plotting Information:
Player Name: Lark

Flynn Scifo | Tales of Vesperia
Character Name: Flynn Scifo
Blood Type: Paleblood
Abilities: Flynn's a precog paleblood, so he can have visions about upcoming potentials i.e. branching ways that a situation might possibly play out, as well as precognitive dreams! He's also a magic sword knight in full armor, and has some minor healing magic.
Potential Role: Melee fighter @ landfall and tactical command—he'll be helping figure out on the ground tactics up until landfall, and then fling himself into the fray
What You'd Like To Do: So I am A W F U L at fight threads, but I would love to do a few things:
Anything Else: Before the battle, I'm planning to have Flynn give a speech that plays on his other paleblood abilities that will give a little buff to anyone who listens. Think Bardic Inspiration for characters to use in the battle. If you're looking for an excuse for your character to do something extra cool or badass, feel free to use that as an excuse! He's a knight, he can't help himself
OOC Plotting Information:
Player Name: Jordan
Contact:
OOC Limits: I'd rather not play out long detailed fight threads, I am truly awful at them as someone who has never held a sword in their life
Preferred Level of Horror: high! can't wait to play out in detail how Flynn feels watching Yuri get chomped in front of him
Izuku "Deku" Midoriya | My Hero Academia
Character Name: Izuku "DEKU, WTF" Midoriya
Blood Type: Warmblood
Abilities: Super strength kicks and spoilers. He's going all out! Don't touch his fight threads if you don't want manga spoilers.
Potential Role: Ground combatant.
What You'd Like To Do: in order:
- Riding Jemperor's ship with Anna, Oscar, et. al. to smash the Leviathan at sea. Violence: stabbing it with a ship's mast.
- Ground forces. Light to heavy violence. Tentative already-existing plans:
-- Illarion, reality pretzels.
-- Falco, big bird team-up.
-- Maul, getting saved by, and perhaps tactically yeeted.
- Retrieving Paul('s body). Most likely by jumping into a maw. It would be gore-tastic if people could join him in this (but not die ok, one death is enough lmao).
- Going berserk against Leviathan's Final Form. Heavy manga spoilers. Heavy violence towards the monster. I'm sensing a high chance [redacted] will [redacted], so I'll put some [redacted] in your [redacted] so you can [redacted] while you [redacted]. Contact me privately for details.
- Aftermath: running away! He knows his severe Corruption can lead to Beasthood, so he is running away. It's fine, he's fine.
Anything Else: I'll have an open log for tracking down Deku the cryptid, so no need to Aftermath with him if you're slammed.
OOC Plotting Information:
Player Name: Tea
Contact:
OOC Limits: Deku won't die.
Preferred Level of Horror: All I think? For him, I'm avoiding serious injury/limb loss.

BATTLE TACTICS
Once the Leviathan makes it to the shore for Landfall and Death Throes respectively, those characters who can engage with the Leviathan's possibility shifting and those characters who will be ground level combatants will be organized into raid teams with the first group dispersed among the second. The composition of these teams can be handwaved, worked out among players, or ignored entirely. Not all characters could or would work well in teams, after all!
Outside of the frontlines of the fight, characters likely fall into medical support roles and strategic support roles, but don't consider those (or the combat roles above) mutually exclusive or binding. Many characters will fall into different roles through the fight or mix and match from the beginning.
These tactics are not meant to be fixed or restrictive, but instead to be used as jumping off points for anything you might like to do. In the confusion and disruption of the fight, anything can happen, and no battle plan survives contact with the enemy.
If you have any suggestions or notes on the above, please comment below for discussion.
(An in-character version of this discussion starter will also be put up on the Leviathan group chat network post on February 18th.)
