( Basil barely remembers waking up in the hospital. He barely remembers the warmth he felt from waking up in his room – feeling mild panic and relief from seeing his friends around him. However, that warmth feels like a short-lived dream that quickly throttles into a nightmare when he feels the piercing cold of the water.
He feels himself gasp under the water, a hand going to his throat shortly after, reaching to push against the ice – knocking at it frantically before he feels himself begin to sink.
He's afraid. He's terrified. This is never how he wanted to die. Still, he closes his eyes in hopes that he'll wake up back in the hospital bed he was beforehand – that this was indeed some terrifying dream. This won't be like the last time. He won't be saved. Still, despite the numbing cold, it doesn't stop himself from trying to reassure himself.

( The world feels unbelievably lonely without anyone in it. Basil is too new here to know if this is something that happens here normally or not – but even so, something feels terribly wrong and empty about the world around him right now. It isn't just how desolate and quiet everything is – it feels like something is creeping behind him. Something that's going to jump out at him and surprise him at any given moment.
At home, he often felt alone. But at least there, he had the company of plants and his caretaker to keep him company. As Basil walks through the abandoned city, he holds his wrist with his other hand. There's something grounding about doing that much – as if reminding himself that he truly was still there.
It's only when he hears footsteps behind him that he stops – his heart jumping in his chest. He opens his mouth to speak, but only does so after a moment or so-- )
