Hope, relief... maybe a renewed appreciation of life. It's kind of amazing how many emotions people cycle through when they think they've escaped their imminent death.
Not nearly as amazing at the emotions they show just before they're about to die, though. Sometimes I'm quick enough to peel back their eyelids and watch the light fade. There's something, I dunno-- peaceful about it. I know it's probably just the body going into shock, but they look... transcendental sometimes. Like they're acquiring knowledge and wisdom about the world in their last moments of life-- wisdom you can never share, not until it's your turn.
It's... it's beautiful, really.
