Adam's surprised by the touch, and his spine straightens immediately. The masked people milling about would be unsettling to just about anyone, but apparently crowds were also unsettling to the kid.

He turns himself so he's halfway blocking the crowd from his view, putting a hand gently on his shoulder.

"It's definitely overwhelming, especially when you first arrive." He smiles softly. "But that's what volunteers like me are here for. You don't have to talk to anyone if you don't want to. We can get you sorted with food and clothes and see if you feel a little better after. How does that sound?"
