[so much tragedy to come, and some has already happened. alicent cannot know how close her daughter has come to the truth of her own sorrow, of her own lonely, upright and narrow path - it wasn't one she would have chosen, though choice was never afforded her much at all. she would not have chosen viserys, and that is no slight upon the king - he is patient, and gentle and kind, and he listens to her when she speaks. there is a meeting of minds, an interest in ideas, an exchange of thoughts and feeling that her father would have her spin to his advantage all the while dressing it up as to her own.

now, here, it is harder to think on that choice when she sees the girl that is to be their child. should she bear only girls, or will she have sons? she wants to know but does not press to ask, as they are not here.

she looks down at her fingers - what her father might calla ruin of her beauty, as if the skin around her nails has any real value or say upon who she is.]

Helaena. It is a beautiful name. And Dreamfyre is...

[well. dragons have always frightened her, though not so much now as before - she'd have perhaps said yes to climbing onto syrax now as she remembers, if only they could just flee king's landing and eat cake. a child's wish, impossible, and she is unsure if she would choose it now that she's seen what will be.]

...as lovely as she is fearsome. She was Rhaena's dragon, once.

[alicent can hold fast where helaena forgets - but what she does, inexplicably, because she is tired of doing what she's told, and even if she cannot say what it is she wants for forever, what she wants now is to step out of the slippers she's found herself in, and feel the ground beneath her feet.

it pains her to see sadness on the face of her daughter-to-be, and there's an echo of viserys in this, too - so with a dizzying fear in her belly, and a dry mouth (this must be a dream, surely but if that's so then anything is possible) she summons her courage asks the thing.]

Could we fly together if I hold fast to you? I ...I regret never doing so, and I am stronger than I look. There's so much sky.

[that is a way she can grow higher, but not a way anyone would have expected or tried to force. and the only ones to gain from it are right here.]
