[ The admonition does persuade Ortus to lower his hands, but not his watchfulness. He has never even seen Harrow so poorly off, and he has seen her at extremities he is loathe to even recall. But he does not linger on that, yet.

Like Master Warden Palamedes Sextus, this is the true Captain Judith Deuteros, then. He knew from the tale that Dyas tightly, grimly recounted for the Lady Pent what grievous injury she had suffered, but necromancy should have seen her in more hale condition than this. It is a mystery, and he has not found any of those to end happily in some time. ]

[ He glances about them for seating in this small bookshop, settling on a high-backed wooden chair he picks up and sets down for her without prompting. The proprietor looks at them curiously, but she bends back to her reading soon enough - a handsome woman in her sixties, seated behind a counter festooned with her wares. ]

I do not take offence at going unknown. I have only recently taken up the position, in this very city. [ A demotion, technically, but a welcome one. ] The Reverend Daughter will be most pleased to hear of your arrival.

[ She almost certainly won't, but that is more a general quality of Harrow's than anything about the Captain. ]
