Yes, Break decides. Battler is hilarious. And he probably doesn't mean to be, which makes him even funnier.

"Am I undertaking a trial for you?"

His amusement obvious in his voice. The cane he always carries does indeed have a sword in it, but he shoves the end of it into the sand for the moment, in favor of drawing a blatantly magical glowing purple blade out of thin air instead. The latent showman in him is absolutely showing off, but much more practically, Break is not so certain he isn't going to have to take drastic measures to kill this thing with a blood power he hasn't actually practiced yet. If it comes to that, he needs a sword he can't shatter, just in case.

"Fortunately, my world is a little old-fashioned compared to many others, and so I've been using a sword since I was big enough to hold one. Then, Baltus, if you'll be so kind as to provide a distraction so that I do not find myself fried?"

His omen gives a polite "boof" of acknowledgement, shaking himself doggishly before he trots off toward the squid. The borzoi's tail wags at first, but once he gets close enough to attract the monster's attention, his demeanor shifts to something just as serious as Break's underlying thoughts. Sinking into a hunting posture, Baltus stalks right up on this thing several times bigger than he is. Once he has its attention and it begins firing its lasers at him -- the omen simply wafts himself into shadow whenever a beam comes too close, no danger here -- Break follows, approaching up on the thing from other directions.

Break does not quite hit the levels of flashy bullshit that a swordsman from an anime might achieve. But it's painfully obvious he's a professional with long experience in fighting monsters, and while he's retired in Trench he's kept his hand in by way of the beasts that occupy the territory around his home. He's fast even on wet sand, he's elegant as he moves, and he has no trouble at all ducking beneath flailing tentacles to get close and strike hard. It will take him multiple blows to fell the thing, certainly, but given how angry he makes it when he straight up whacks a whole tentacle off, probably he really can handle it on his own.

Perhaps that will be that, and Battler can watch the whole fight as a spectator to his heart's content. Or, perhaps the squid monster will surprise them, and Battler will find a way to intervene somehow.
