That's... not a bad idea, actually. He had assumed the level of tech here was pretty below what he's used to working on, but then again, if this man is making lasers then surely the issue is more access to material than it is lack of advancement. So what already does exist needs maintaining, especially if it's not always easy to replace... yeah. That could be something steady and grounding and practical to do, and that's something he'll take in a world that feels very unsteady and very impractical.

Directions would only be so helpful for a man who barely knows the city, and anyway, he does better with muscle memory than he does with memory for words, right now. "It helps a lot knowing there's decent folks here."

Not that he... you know... fully trusts this guy. He fully trusts almost no one, but it's always got him further to go in hoping for the best while bracing for the worst than it has to simply sit on his hands and do nothing.
