[The indignation is there, but it isn't as potent as it might have been, once. The concept of devils means something different to Aki now. Now he's lived with Power and partnered with Angel and he woke up one day and realized that his bloodthirst had abated in the face of more important things. He wonders if Makima has been informed yet that he's withdrawn from the Gun Devil operation. It's hardly relevant information here and now, but all the same--Aki isn't the same person that he used to be, and no longer feels the same hatred.

Still. The idea of something akin to a devil having power over him--of, possibly, being forced to become something inhuman himself--is beyond disturbing. No amount of newfound comfort with devils can change that. And he has no reason not to trust what Makima's saying is true.]


What kind of influence does this have over us? [The unspoken next question: How do we fight it?]
